Population growth explained with IKEA boxes

Listening to this extraordinary 10 minute presentation by Hans Rosling, I learned, for example, this:

Insight # 1
There is a wider gap today – compared to 1960 - between the poorest people in the world and the richest people in the world.

Insight # 2
Most people tend to be somewhere in the middle. Mr. Rosling explained that these people will move further forward economically, if we invest in the right green technologies, so that we can avoid severe climate change and energy can still be relatively cheap.

Insight # 3
The population of the poorest 2 billion people in the world is growing rapidly. Population growth can be stopped, if the poorest people in the world get out of poverty, get education, and if child survival is improved. Child survival is the new green.

Insight # 4
According to Mr. Rosling, the Western World, i.e. the blue box in the presentation, will not be all alone anymore and living its own life. The role of the Old West in the new world is to become the foundation of the modern world.
